The Court After Six
Balls, rackets, concrete, and shared rituals that keep the city alive after the workday.
The city changes when the court lights come on. Concrete becomes a meeting place, the backboard sets a rhythm, and the ball moves from hand to hand as if it already knew everyone’s name.
There is a whole aesthetic in these objects of use: the scratched racket, worn shoes, the towel at the pool’s edge, the ball crossing the street. They promise no transformation. They hold stories of participation.
Maybe that is what deserves to stay: the place where someone teaches a movement, the pair that forms without ceremony, the body that comes home tired and happy.
